The UCLA Digital Humanities program has released A Student Collaborators’ Bill of Rights outlining an approach to working with students on DH projects aligned with the values and principles upon which the program operates. Building on the 2011 DH Collaborators’ Bill of Rights, this statement specifically foregrounds the power differential among students and the faculty, staff, and mentors with whom they collaborate. Payment for labor, credit, equal treatment, and choice in how student work is publicly represented are among this issues addressed in the document.
The authors encourage scholars and mentors to familiarize themselves with the issues surrounding student labor in higher education and present DH projects as partnerships in which all collaborators mutually benefit.
