Archive Stories is an open-access website about working with creative and non-traditional archives. It is curated by Sara Salem and Mai Taha, designed by Frederick Kannemeyer, and funded by the London School of Economics and Political Science. Rather than offering a new definition of the archive, the curators focus on archiving as a creative practice and as a response to the limits of institutional archives, including national archives that have been destroyed or made inaccessible and colonial archives that reproduce colonial power. The site now gathers dozens of contributions, several of them in Arabic, and many of them trace histories of anticolonial and revolutionary solidarity. Topics include the Palestine Poster Project Archives, traces of PFLP cinema in Beirut, a community-built archive of Syrian cassettes, Chilean revolutionary arpilleras, and oral history traditions in Palestine. The site is designed to be explored without a set path, and the curators welcome new submissions.
