EVENT: Transborder Digital Humanities Speaker Series, Fall 2025

The Transborder Digital Humanities (TBDH) is an initiative focused on community-engaged research and collaboration on transborder and borderlands cultures, centering on the U.S.-Mexico border and transborder experiences across the Americas. Led by Dr. Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla (University of Texas-San Antonio), the multi-institutional project team is planning a conference to be held in September 2026 in collaboration with the Latin American and Caribbean Digital Humanities Symposium.

For Fall 2025, the TBDH project team will host a Speaker Series featuring themes in borderlands research and digital humanities, focusing on “Challenging Dominant Narratives.” Events will be held both in-person and virtually. The speakers for the three Fall 2025 events include:

  • Oct. 23: Alexandra Cenatus, Ph.D. Student and Humanities Program Director, University of Maryland, speaking on The Haitian American Dream Timeline: Constructing Counter-Narratives Through Digital Humanities
  • Oct. 30: Dr. James Yékú, Associate Professor of African DH and Co-Creator of African DH Symposium, University of Kansas, speaking on Crossing Digital Borders: DH in Africa, Africa in DH
  • Nov. 7: Kristen Mapes, Interim Director of Global Digital Humanities, Michigan State University, speaking on What is Global Digital Humanities? Reflecting on Opportunities and Challenges
