JOB: Metadata Consultant for the Humanities, Virginia Tech

The University Libraries at Virginia Tech seeks a full-time Metadata Consultant for the Humanities to serve as a library metadata expert for publishing and digital humanities work. This position will have a dual reporting line to the Coordinator of Metadata Technologies within the Metadata Services Unit (70% time), and to the Interim Director of Publishing Services (30% time). The Metadata Consultant for the Humanities will apply the latest in metadata best practices and emerging standards to University Libraries’ metadata, and will consult on digital humanities. Essential to the position is flexibility with changing technology standards, clear communication, and a desire to work closely with library colleagues as well as faculty and students from across the Virginia Tech community.

Required Qualifications

-Master’s in Library and Information Science or related discipline
-Demonstrated experience with digital humanities tools, such as Omeka or Scalar
-Experience working with metadata in a digital library environment
-Prior professional experience working in an academic research library
-Familiarity with the workflows and practices associated with library linked data
-Excellent time management and demonstrated experience to successfully handle multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
-Effective communication skills
-Demonstrated experience with emerging metadata and linked data practices which may include linked data creation and/or editing in Wikidata
-Experience working effectively within a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications

-Demonstrated skills with tools for data manipulation, such as Open Refine, XSLT, or
scripting languages such as Python or Ruby
-Demonstrated experience with digital humanities projects and working with humanities faculty
-Experience with grant writing

Salary Information

$56,000 minimum dependent on qualifications and experience

JOB: Librarian/Archivist for Digital Programs, Harvard Radcliffe Institute

 Reporting to the Head of Digital Collection and Services, the Librarian/Archivist for Digital Programs has shared responsibility for technical program management, digitization and the enabling of data integration across local and external data sources in the Digital Collections and Services unit. The Schlesinger Library contributes to one of the largest shares of special collections book and paper reformatting among dozens of repositories at the largest university library system in the United States. As a result, the Librarian/Archivist for Digital Programs will be responsible for the operation and growth of a highly impactful program for collection access and preservation, contribute to the management of a mature technical program, and help set strategy for the future of digital services at Schlesinger.

The incumbent in this position will manage a large digitization program to reformat bibliographic and manuscript materials, serve as a repository liaison to internal Harvard units (example, Digital Preservation and Imaging Services) and act as a point of contact to external contractors.  They will collaborate and work with an inclusive team in Digital Collections and Services and other Schlesinger units. JOB: 3D Data Visualization Specialist, Washington University

JOB: Digital Projects Specialist, George Washington Presidential Library

This position will be devoted to working on compelling new projects that the CDH is building. Of primary importance is ARGO: American Revolutionary Geographies Online, an NHPRC-funded multi-institutional historic maps platform spearheaded by the Washington Library and the Norman B Leventhal Map and Education Center at the Boston Public Library. In particular, this position will be responsible for managing the metadata cleanup and ingest of record sets from partner institutions into the ARGO platform, as well as working with ARGO’s custom metadata layers. In this role, the Digital Projects Specialist will collaborate with Leventhal Center staff and have the opportunity to shape and maintain a dynamic cross-institutional partnership.

This position will also collaborate with and provide technical support for other Mount Vernon/CDH data-driven projects, such as the Database of the Enslaved Community at Mount Vernon and the forthcoming George Washington’s Networks project.
