EVENT: Amplifying Soul of Reason: A Virtual Wiki Edit-a-thon

AfroCROWD, NYU Libraries, and the NYU Institute of African American Affairs & Center for Black Visual Culture are coming together to bring attention to Black culture and the African diaspora on Wikimedia platforms. More on the event:

Soul of Reason was a half-hour radio show that aired from 1971-1986 on both the commercial radio station WNBC and the University’s radio station, WNYU. The show’s host, Dr. Roscoe C. Brown, Jr., was Director of the Institute of Afro-American (now African American) Affairs at New York University at the time. Soul of Reason showcased unique and vital conversations with leaders, politicians, writers, activists, and artists of African descent in New York City during the civil rights and Black Power and Arts movements. Recordings of Soul of Reason episodes that aired between 1971-1978 are part of the Records of the Institute of African American Affairs in NYU Special Collections. Following two community transcribe-a-thons held in 2020 to edit transcripts of Soul of Reason, this virtual Wiki Edit-a-thon is another chance to listen to the episodes and read the transcripts, this time while enriching information about the show and its subjects in Wiki platforms.

Find additional information on the Wikipedia Event Page and project website.

The Soul of Reason Wiki Edit-a-thon takes place on Saturday, 11 May 2021 at 1-3pm Eastern Time (5-7pm UTC). Registration is open at bit.ly/SORWiki.
