EVENT: Immersive Realities in the Humanities and Intro to FrameVR for Pedagogical Applications of Public History

The US Latino Digital Humanities (USLDH) Center at the University of Houston is hosting two free online events in the month of May. On Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 2 p.m. Eastern time the Immersive Realities in the Humanities workshop with Amanda Licastro (Swarthmore College) “explores how emerging technologies are being used to cultivate community and interdisciplinarity in accessible ways.” From the event sign up page:

With a focus on Virtual and Augmented Reality applications, this presentation will balance the critical theory needed to evaluate new forms of digital storytelling alongside hands-on pedagogical approaches to integrating immersive technologies into humanities scholarship.

The Intro to FrameVR for Pedagogical Applications of Public History workshop on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 3 p.m. Eastern time with Jessica C. Linker and Liam MacLean (both Northeastern University) “introduces Frame VR as a free to use 3D/VR environment that can be used to think about cultural heritage and public history applications.” From the sign up page:

The workshop will cover how to get started with Frame VR and models pedagogical exercises one may use in a classroom environment. We will also discuss other 3D/VR tools available to humanities practitioners and what the threshhold for using each might be. Participants are encouraged to come to the workshop with ideas for curating mini-museums and exhibits with their students.
